EION CEO Recognized by ICOBC

Dr. Kalai Kalaichelvan awarded for Business Achievements and Community Contributions

OTTAWA, Canada, September 8, 2008 - EION Inc., a global provider of Flexible WiMAX Systems, Intelligent Broadband Wireless Systems, and Advanced IP Software Solutions is pleased to report that its CEO, Dr. Kalai Kalaichelvan has been recognized by the Indo-Canada Ottawa Business Chamber (ICOBC) with an award for Business Achievements and Community Contributions.

 

Dr. Kalaichelvan was recognized for his work in the telecommunications sector in the Ottawa Region. As the CEO of Ottawa based EION, he has been responsible for the company’s swift growth and entry into new markets which include broadband wireless services, satellite communication and WiMAX equipment. In 2007 EION was named to a list of the fifty fastest growing wireless companies in North America by Deliotte and Touche.

With a successful track record in his entrepreneurship path, Dr. Kalaichelvan co-founded a service intelligence company, iPine Networks, specializing in IP Service Intelligence which was subsequently acquired by Nakina Systems in 2003. He also co-founded CHIL Semiconductor Systems headquartered in Boston, MA which has to-date attracted top-tier Venture Capital financing of US$32M.

Prior to founding EION, Dr. Kalaichelvan had a meritorious career in Nortel Networks. He was one of the youngest fast-rising executives in Nortel Networks and was in the CEO’s Platinum top talent list. His extensive experience in running a successful IP Networking business positioned Nortel’s leadership in Internet strategy increasing its brand recognition in the world market.

Other award recipients from the ICOBC included: Dr. Harsha Dehejia, a physician with a great passion for India’s art and culture; Vinod Kumar, former longtime director of Carleton’s Sprott School of Business; Kailash (Kelly) Mital President of Churchill Carling Daycare; Goldy Hyder, former chief of staff to Progressive Conservative leader Joe Clark and current senior VP with Hill & Knowlton and sits on Carleton University’s Board of Governors.

The ICOBC presented its prestigious annual awards to five outstanding Indo-Canadian professionals/businesspersons at the ICOBC Annual Gala Saturday, September 6th at the Hilton Lac Leamy Hotel.
